Cleantech Commons contributes to Trent’s improved Sustainability Ranking

The reputation of Cleantech Commons partner and host institution, Trent University, as a world-leading environmental university was highlighted when it was named among the top 100 most sustainable university campuses around the world in the 2019 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.

Cleantech Commons executive director, Martin Yuill, says that the cleantech research and innovation park “will fall in line with Trent’s environmentally-friendly identity”.

The findings of this report demonstrate Trent’s ongoing commitment to reducing the University’s environmental impact.

“Trent’s rising and competitive position in this global ranking since 2017 really shows our leadership when it comes to the environment,” Kent Stringham, vice-president of Finance and Administration at Trent told us.

Stringham emphasizes Trent playing host to the future site of Cleantech Commons as an important element in the ranking.

Cleantech Commons executive director, Martin Yuill, says that the clean and green technology research and innovation park “will fall in line with Trent’s environmentally-friendly identity”.

Yuill told Katrina Squazzin of CHEX Newswatch that “research park tenants will be expected to adhere to sustainable design, green building principles and environmentally-friendly operations at Cleantech Commons”. Watch that interview here!

“Cleantech Commons will provide customized services and targeted value to ventures whose goal it is to create new solutions and leverage new technologies to solve the world’s energy, environment and climate challenges,” he says.

Trent’s ranking is based on the University’s performance across six categories: education and research, setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, and transportation.
