“Cleantech Innovation Portal” innovator, Mitrex, Launches New Production Facility

A Cleantech Commons “Cleantech Innovation Portal” innovator, Mitrex, has launched a new production factory.

The factory spans over 100,000 sq. ft. and features a fully automated production line that will allow Mitrex to produce 25,000 square feet of solar integrated panels such as solar cladding and solar glass for windows and railing per day.

Mitrex is a manufacturer of building-integrated photovoltaic technology. Read the full story here!

Danial Hadizadeh, CEO, Mitrex

While traditional solar panels are attached to buildings, building-integrated photovoltaic technology is built into the exterior as key elements.

They can be anything exposed to the sun: shingles, windows, cladding, skylights, pergolas, balcony railings. One company, Toronto-based Mitrex, is even planning to use them to build greenhouses and highway noise barriers.

Building-integrated photovoltaic technology systems are like other solar panels in that they generate clean energy that can be used for backup power or sold to the grid. But they need to be designed differently in order to serve other functions, such as keeping out the wind and rain or letting natural light shine in.

Because of that, BIPV panels come in a much wider variety of shapes, sizes, colours and transparencies.

The opening of the new factory will allow us to create construction materials that meet the architectural demands of our clients while creating a blueprint for future Mitrex factories across the world,” Danial Hadizadeh, CEO, told us.

Mitrex is a Canadian manufacturing leader in solar technology. Offering solar cladding, windows, roofs, and panels, Mitrex is committed to providing an effective eco-friendly energy system that does not compromise aesthetics. Their innovative building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) was designed to offer solar energy in a wider range of colours, textures and shapes.

After discovering the potential energy that was going to waste, Hadizadeh travelled and researched extensively to find how solar technology was being cultivated around the world.

Mitrex is confident that they are providing Canadian architects and developers with the best design choices for their vision.
